If you’re like me, you’ve probably heard about Eight Sleep through a podcast commercial or a fitness influencer who swears it’s the secret to increased performance, productivity, and, of course, better sleep. But does it live up to its promise? After 90 days of using the Eight Sleep Pod, I’ll explain the real pros and cons and find out if this high-tech mattress system is worth your hard-earned money.
Eight Sleep is a smart mattress cover system (or a complete mattress, if you prefer) that uses temperature control, sleep tracking, and advanced data analytics to improve your rest. The latest model, the Eight Sleep Pod 4, promises dynamic cooling and heating, biometric tracking (including heart rate variability and respiratory rate), and integration with your favorite health apps.
In short: sleep technology for those who want to optimize everything.
I’m a relatively active person—I work out 4-5 times a week—and often had trouble waking up groggy in the morning. I also sweat profusely, especially in the warmer months. I immediately liked the idea of a temperature-controlled mattress that would promote my recovery and help me wake up refreshed.
After researching and reading other Eight Sleep reviews, I opted for the Pod Cover with Hub (since I already had a mattress I liked).
Setting up the Eight Sleep Pod took about 30 minutes. It was surprisingly easy:
The app setup was intuitive and offered numerous customization options: bed temperature, bedtime/wake-up schedule, and even a vibration-based smart alarm.
Sleep Score on the first night: 89
Not bad for the first night—and yes, I definitely felt the difference.
This is by far the most important feature. You can set your side of the bed as cool or warm as you like. I usually choose 18°C, and it really helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.
The data is precise—it tracks sleep stages, disturbances, heart rate, HRV, and more. I checked my Sleep Fitness Score every morning. It even helped me change my caffeine and nighttime eating habits.
The GentleRise feature wakes you up with a gradual temperature change and gentle vibrations – much less disruptive than a traditional alarm clock.
If you want to monitor your health, Eight Sleep is compatible with Apple Health, Garmin, Oura Ring, and other apps.
This upgrade isn’t exactly cheap. The capsule shell alone starts at around $2,000, and the complete mattress can be even more expensive. For a more detailed analysis, there’s an optional subscription (around $15/month).
The hub needs to be refilled with distilled water every few months and can be a bit noisy during cooling cycles (but not too annoying).
No Wi-Fi = no smart features. If there’s an internet outage, the system loses some functionality.
Yes, with a few caveats. If you want to optimize your health and performance, or simply want to sleep cooler and wake up better, Eight Sleep delivers on its promises. Particularly recommended for:
However, if you’re on a tight budget or not particularly interested in data-based sleep optimization, this technology might be too much for you.
